Q&A

Eyelash extensions are not for everyone. This is a high maintenance beauty treatment.
It requires gentle care in order for the lashes to last long and stay in good condition.

What are Eyelash Extensions?
Not to be confused with the self-stick strip falsies or individual clusters of lashes knotted together that are a one-night accessory, these semi-permanent, synthetic extensions are adhered one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) by using a specially formulated medical grade adhesive.  Eyelash extensions are a relatively new beauty service that originated in Korea.  Single synthetic eyelashes are applied to your own natural eyelash to achieve a beautiful full luscious and long set of lashes that are natural and you won't even know they are there.

It is a beauty enhancing service and you DO NOT need to use any mascara while wearing these eyelash extensions. Certified lash technician provide this intensive service which requires skill and precision. Once applied lashes are so natural looking it is difficult to tell even up close that you have extensions on. You can customize your lashes to your unique style by choosing the length, thickness, curl and style.

How are the eyelash extensions applied?
A single natural eyelash is isolated and a synthetic lash (mink, silk, velvet) is applied with a medical grade adhesive to your own natural eyelash never contact with the skin.

How long does the application take?
The procedure will take approximately 1 - 1.5 hours for a full set and about 45 min - 60 min for a fill.   It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration therefore it should not be rushed so that clients can leave with a perfect set of lashes. You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Most clients are so relaxed they fall asleep.

How long do Eyelash Extensions last?
We lose 3-5 eyelashes everyday like we lose our hair. The extension seat on top of your natural lash until it shed naturally. Extension will lose when you shed a natural lash. So over time, the extensions will start to become sparser than when you first left our studio. On average our clients are coming in every 2-3 weeks for their fills. First timers may be in earlier due to adaptation to the extensions. The longer you wear the lash extensions, the more accustomed you are to maintaining them. There are many factors that will affect longevity of extensions, such as eyelash growth cycle, lifestyle and general after care. If you choose not to maintain the extensions with a fill please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own, seek professional help from your lash technician or let it fall out naturally. Never pull out the extensions.

Should I be careful who applies the eyelash extensions and should they be trained?
Absolutely, I cannot stress the importance of choosing an eyelash technician who has been taught by a qualified, experienced person and is fully certified.  Make sure that you are dealing with a "Seasoned" technician who will  take into consideration the health and safety of your natural lash.  Please do your research thoroughly and ask many questions.

Will lash extensions damage my eyelashes?

Not at all! The lash adhesive is formulated to create a solid bond, specifically for human lashes. The adhesive dries very soft on lashes, allowing the lashes to stay flexible and bouncy just like your own lashes. Any hair on our body shed according to their cycle. This is a natural process. A lash growth cycle is between 60-90 days and every follicle is on a separate cycle. So when one lash sheds, another baby lash is growing out of follicle. People who remove their eyelash extensions feel that their natural lashes look shorter and thinner. This is an optical illusion. They have become accustomed to the look of the extensions that made their eyelashes appear fuller, thicker and longer and therefore causing their natural lashes to look short and thin. Spring & Fall season we shed more.

What is a proper application?

A proper application is to apply one extension to single natural eyelash and glue should not touch the skin. When its applied to single natural lash then it does not interrupt adjacent lashes growth cycle and it will shed normally. If lashes are bunched together and multiple natural lashes are attached it pulls out natural lash which is not ready to come out. Another important part of a proper lash application is the weight of the extension in relation to your natural lash. As skilled lash artist will be sure to have a thorough consultation and choose the right lashes to suit your natural lashes and your desired look to suit your lifestyle. Lashes should feel like an extension of your own and you shouldn’t even feel like you have them on. If you feel any pulling, itchiness, pain then you must immediately consult with your lash artist.

How do I take care of them?

Lash extensions are so easy to maintain and take care of. NEVER pick or pull and rub your lashes. NEVER use a mechanical curler on them. Picking, pulling or mechanically curling your eyelash extensions can cause breakage and premature falling from the root. Only use oil-free makeup remover and products around your eyes. Do not get them wet for the first few hours (your lash artist will give you a better idea of how long since different adhesives have different cure rates).

Is the process of having my eyelash extension painful?

Absolutely NOT. The vast majority of clients are snoring away within a few minutes. You should not feel any pain or discomfort and if you do immediately inform your lash artist.

Can I swim, shower, go to the gym?

Yes, yes and yes. Glue cures completely in 48hours. Once the adhesive is cured there are no limitations to getting them wet. Just be mindful of being gentle when drying them. Patting them is best and give them a brush through with your lash brush.

How long do they last?

Eyelash extensions can be worn indefinitely with proper care and maintenance. Fill-ins or touch ups are needed every 2-3 weeks. Each of our natural lashes has a life span of 60-90 days and each of our natural lashes is at a different point of its growth cycle. The rate of your growth cycle and how well you maintain them determines the frequency.

How do I remove them?

If for any reason you must have your lash extensions removed, make sure to go to a professional. We have specially formulated debonding agents that dissolve the adhesive and will not damage your natural lashes. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE ON YOUR OWN. If you attempt to remove on your own then you are risking the health of your natural lashes.

How do I clean my pretty new lashes?
Lash hygiene is absolutely necessary for optimal lash health.  There are wonderful lash cleansers safe to use for even sensitive eyes. Cleansing set is available to purchase in salon. Our natural lashes main function is to trap dirt, dust and debris not get into our eyes. Lash extensions just increased the surface area that dirt, dust and debris can accumulate so daily cleansing is imperative. Don't get scared of washing your lashes with water.
Clean lash means good retention.
